Over

Rick van Kersbergen, MSc is a lecturer at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences and researcher within the Responsible IT professorship. As a researcher, he is mainly concerned with translating theory about responsible application of artificial intelligence into practice in the form of applied research.

Education

Rick completed his HBO-ICT studies at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences with honors in 2022. He then followed his passion for artificial intelligence and obtained his Master of Science in Applied Artificial Intelligence in 2023.

Research

Rick conducts research into translating the concept of responsible artificial intelligence into applicable techniques to improve society. In particular, he has worked on a Responsible AI Process Model that translates theory into actions that can be taken to apply artificial intelligence responsibly. This was then further developed into an interactive Visual Studio Code plug-in.

Motivation

What drives Rick most to do his work is an intrinsic motivation to improve the world for both people and the environment. Artificial Intelligence is a concept that has interested him from an early age. However, these techniques are not always used for the right purposes. Besides, AI technology is also becoming increasingly accessible, also to people or institutions with malicious intentions or who do not know exactly what they are doing and thus endanger people and the environment.

Through applied research and education, Rick tries to do his part to steer these developments in the right direction: a direction where people and nature are not disadvantaged at the expense of an attempt at the eternal growth of profit and power.}
